Inver Cottage was built by the seventh chief of Clan MacLachlan as a croft and ferryman's cottage. Old Castle Lachlan (above), has been home of Clan MacLachlan since they arrived in Scotland from Ireland over one thousand years ago and the MacLachlan family still occupies the same land today. As Jacobite sympathisers, the clan suffered heavily at Culloden and later at the hands of the Campbells when the Old Castle was besieged and attacked by English soldiers in 1746. The Old Castle is now a listed ruin and there is an easy walk across the bay to see this unique and atmospheric fortress.
